Screens Are the New Normal - Let’s Prepare Our Kids for the Future
We live in a world surrounded by screens—on our desks, in our pockets, on our walls, even in our cars. And that’s not a bad thing.
In micON episode 225, Adrian (@boioglu) and I talked about a recent statement by Romania’s Minister of Education, Prof. Daniel David, a clinical psychologist and researcher. He emphasized that 2 to 4 hours of daily screen time is fundamental for school-age children to remain competitive. That’s not a controversial opinion. It’s reality.
Arguments like “back in my day, we didn’t have so many screens” fall into the same nostalgic category as “back in my day, we had horses, not cars.” The world moves forward. The tools change. And today, those tools are digital, driven increasingly by screens—and AI.
In the future, our children will interact with artificial intelligence daily, whether visually through a screen or audibly through microphones and speakers. They’ll collaborate with AI, learn with AI, and navigate life with it.
Shielding them from screens doesn’t prepare them. Educating them to use technology wisely and critically does.
We shouldn’t fear screens. We should fear leaving our children unprepared for the digital-first, AI-integrated world ahead. They need guidance, not prohibition.
Let’s raise children ready for their future, not our past.
